Why art thou cast down, O my soul? and why art thou disquieted within me? hope thou in God: for I shall yet praise him, who is the health of my countenance, and my God.

Psalm 42:11

Sometimes you put out way more than you receive. You become discouraged when others don't give you the same energy, time and devotion. In those moments your heart becomes faint and when you need others the most, they never seem to be around. It's true, encouragers sometimes get silenced by disappointment.

Yet, King David did something that we all can learn from and adopt when we feel let down regardless of the source. He asked himself the question "why are you disquieted within in me?" When we take a deeper look at the reason for our dismay, we realize that our dependency should be in God alone...not even ourselves!

We should always redirect our attention to God so that he can encourage our hearts. God is the one that can lift our countenance. It comes from his word, a song, and the person you never thought would have you on their minds. God knows exactly what we need when we need it the most. In the midst of it all, know that we have the best encourage that cheer us on daily the incomparable Holy Spirit.

"But godliness with contentment is great gain." 1 Timothy 6:6

Godliness is way of life and the pursuit of walking in the character of our Heavenly Father. When we choose to pursue him and seek him with all of our hearts, we find a sense of contentment even in the most challenging of times. The formula that we often overlook to maintain our spiritual perspective is to subtract our view and add God's perspective. When we follow this formula we are able to view things from a lens of contentment in any situation.

Contentment doesn't mean you are settling for less or don't have ambitions for a better tomorrow. It simply means that you can still have your joy, peace, faith, patience and strength until your change comes. When we consider God's presence in our life and all that he has brought us through, we find contentment knowing that whatever we are faced with is nothing we can't handle with his guidance. Grasping this truth and biblical principle allows us to gain a level of assurance that we otherwise would not receive.

Building a godly character is an honorable and invaluable way of living. We tap into greater knowledge and understanding that leads to gaining wisdom that will govern our lives. Contentment of the heart, mind and soul tells God that you are willing to wait for your overflow season without complaint. Today, you might not be where you think you should be, but as you learn to thank God for the blessings in your life; you will find that you are exactly where he wants you to be.

I will instruct you and show you the way to go; with My eye on you, I will give counsel. Psalm 32:8

Let this year be one of clarity, divine instruction and counsel for you. As you look forward, embrace the direction that God wants to take you. It might seem like an uncomfortable path, but it will be worth it. God is moved by our faith and obedience. If we are able to obey him we will see the manifested blessings of our prayers.

January is the first month of the year and a great opportunity to set things in order. What you do in this month of the new year can set the tone for the rest of of your year.

God is speaking, he wants to instruct you and show you the way that he has prepared for you. All other paths will lead to fustration, heartache and regret. The Holy Spirit is ready, willing and able to lead you to the path that God wants for your life; that path is full of his promises ready to be manifested in your life. God is keeping a steady eye on you, he will protect you and give you the strength to walk gracefully.

May you find God to be your counselor and confidant this month as you listen earnestly for his voice and direction.
