The Reality of Affliction & God’s Promise of Deliverance

Psalm 34:19

"Many are the afflictions of the righteous, but the Lord delivers him out of them all."

No one willingly wants to experience affliction. By definition, it is a cause of persistent pain and suffering. It can manifest as physical, emotional, or spiritual distress. However, as long as we are in this body and this fallen world, we will experience some form of affliction. John 16:33 reminds us, "In the world you will have tribulation. But take heart; I have overcome the world."

Here’s the good news! God promises to deliver us from them all. We may have to endure for a season, but He is able to uphold us when we are weak (Isaiah 41:10), comfort us when we are overwhelmed (2 Corinthians 1:3-4), and strengthen us in our time of pain.

His Word reminds us that His grace is sufficient (2 Corinthians 12:9). That tells me that regardless of our experiences, we will not be consumed. Our healing is guaranteed (Jeremiah 30:17).

Reflection:

In what ways have I experienced affliction?

How do I typically respond when facing physical, emotional, or spiritual distress?

Prayer:

Heavenly Father, thank You for Your promise of deliverance in my time of distress. Help me to remember that You are always near. Draw me close and pour out Your love, peace, and mercy upon me.

In Jesus’ Name, Amen.
