Read Proverbs 3: 4-8
[5] Trust in the LORD with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding. [6] In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths. Proverbs 3:5-6
In today’s scripture, we see Solomon sharing words of wisdom with his son. He encourages him to trust God with all of his heart and not lean on his own understanding. This is great advice but we struggle with trusting God in certain areas of our lives. We all know that it is important to trust God but we don’t always do. For some odd reason, we believe that our solutions will work out better than what God has laid out. We take matters into our own hands without fully understanding the big picture.
There were times in our lives when we took matters into our own hands. Times when we thought God was moving too slowly, so we devised several plans “just in case” he doesn’t come through in our timing. We would remind God how old we and the endless things we what to achieve by a certain age. We lose heart when we don’t see certain things come to pass in our hearts we are running out of time. When we run out of patience we begin to rationalize why waiting on God isn’t enough. But God wants us to understand that his divine will for our lives will unfold in the order in which in designed. You may not understand but that’s okay! He desires you to look past your understanding.
Trusting God comes through experience. We need to recall those moments when God came through right on time. We would often say, “thank you Lord for not opening that door”, or “thank you, Jesus, I dodged that mess”. In the end, we are able to acknowledge that his divine timing and direction will never lead us wrong. God is all-seeing, all-knowing, and ever-present. He knows our yesterday, today and future. We have to trust him enough to know that whatever he decides will work out even when we don’t see the finished work of his hands.
Choose to lean on him today. Trust that his plans for our lives are far greater than anything that we could ever accomplish on our own. Begin to lean on him by redistributing the weight of your concerns, and trust him to take care of you. When you have confidence in God, you will begin to see things shift divinely in your favor. Remember, he knows the path in which you should go. Don’t make a detour, just follow what he has laid out before you, the steps of the righteous are ordered by God, he will never disappoint you.
