Matthew 11:28-30 NIV 28 “Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. 29 Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. 30 For my yoke is easy and my burden is light.”
Today’s scripture is all about resting in God. Jesus implored those longing for a break from feeling weary and burden to come to him. How many times have we heard or sung the famous hymn “What a friend we have in Jesus” by Alan Jackson? The lyrics of song states” … what a privilege to carry, everything to God in prayer. Oh, what peace we often forfeit, Oh, what needless pain we bear. All because we do not carry, Everything to God in prayer”.
We sometimes forget that Jesus is our friend and he longs to comfort us by giving us the rest that only he can provide. The fact remains, we get tired. We are juggling so much every day and it’s easy to get overwhelmed. Our days are filled with endless to do items that often leave us stressed and burned out. When we stay in a constant mode of stress, we create burdens that we are not meant to carry.
We should always practice going to God as soon as we begin to feel weary. He gives us strength when we are not able to stand but he also gives us rest when it’s time to be replenished. The more we know what we need, the better we will be able to handle what comes our way. God is faithful to restore us in our time of need. Do not allow your “to do” list get the best of you! Take rest today.
