Matthew 10:40-42 40 “He who receives you receives Me, and he who receives Me receives Him who sent Me. 41 He who receives a prophet in the name of a prophet shall receive a prophet’s reward. And he who receives a righteous man in the name of a righteous man shall receive a righteous man’s reward. 42 And whoever gives one of these little ones only a cup of cold water in the name of a disciple, assuredly, I say to you, he shall by no means lose his reward.”
In Matthew chapter 10, Jesus sends out his disciples and give them authority to heal the sick, cleanse the lepers, raise the dead, and to cast out demons. They were to bring the message to the Jews that the “Kingdom of heaven is at hand”. In doing so, they were to take nothing with them but to trust in the support and hospitality of the people they will be ministering to. Jesus mentioned a Jewish credence that a person’s representative is regarded as the person himself/herself. To receive his disciples is equivalent to receiving Jesus and the one who sent him, our heavenly Father.
This principle still stands. When Jesus made that declaration, he was speaking inclusively; it wasn’t just for his 12 disciples then but for the many disciples of Christ to come. As a believer, we are all called to share the good news and spread the gospel of Jesus Christ. He provided his Holy Spirit and endued us with his power to fulfill the great commission. However, it is only a few that answers the call and we should honor those that do. Among us are great and emerging leaders that have made it their life mission to advance the kingdom of God.
We should never take good leadership for granted. Honoring and supporting those that labor among us help advance God’s agenda. We can offer our prayers, financial support, or volunteer our time to a worthy initiative. Let us unite and partner with those that are bringing spiritual edification, revelation and material aid to those in need. Whatever capacity in which you can help… do so! God will honor you and reward you in due season. Today, ask God how you can support the leaders in your life.
