Praying the Word

Jeremiah 29:12 "Then you will call upon me and come and pray to me, and I will hear you."

Prayer is powerful. It is our life line to our Father in heaven. Many people struggle with prayer because they believe prayer is something that it’s not. When we go to God in prayer, he is looking at the sincerity of our heart not the eloquence of our words.

However, if you struggle with finding the right words, then go to the word of God. Praying the word of God is a great way to: learn the scriptures and strengthen your faith. When we pray the word of God, we can use it as a springing board to launch us into deeper prayer. The Holy Spirit will begin to stir the word in us as we relate it to our situation.

Remember, our approach to prayer isn’t always impromptu, that is, praying from the heart. There are times we can pray strategically by pulling from the word of God to address what’s going on in our lives. When we begin to cultivate a list of scriptures that that reinforce our prayers we can pray in confidence.

Start out by following the model prayer that Jesus shared with his disciples in Matthew 6:9-13. Read the passage of scripture and pray the same prayer but personalize it and elaborate where you want to go deeper. You will find that you are building the word of God in your hearts as you pray in faith. As you call upon the name of the Lord, believe that he hears you and will meet you right where you are.
