Psalm 141:3 Set a guard, O Lord, over my mouth; Keep watch over the door of my lips.
When we blurt something out that we never intended to say our initial reaction is to cover our mouth or wish we could take back what we said. It’s happened to us all, our emotions get the best of us and words have slipped out of frustration. If things are not going the way we planned, we should not fall into the trap of negative self-talk. We must utter words that bring life into our situation and affirm God’s word over our lives.
Our words are powerful and they can shape our perspective and reality. What we speak out of our mouths can have a lasting impact that can alter the direction of our lives. No matter how tempting, we must ask God as David did to set a guard over our mouth so that we may not say anything that can derail our future.
It takes practice, persistence and a made-up mind to align our speech with the word of God. Words are the beginning of mobilization. Today, ask God to help you to speak words of wisdom and grace that will help you avoid saying anything that doesn’t represent what God wants to do in your life.
