Read: Luke 18: 1-8 "Then He spoke a parable to them, that men always ought to pray and not lose heart, 2 saying: “There was in a certain city a judge who did not fear God nor regard man. 3 Now there was a widow in that city; and she came to him, saying, ‘Get justice for me from my adversary.’ 4 And he would not for a while; but afterward he said within himself, ‘Though I do not fear God nor regard man, 5 yet because this widow troubles me I will avenge her, lest by her continual coming she weary me.’”6 Then the Lord said, “Hear what the unjust judge said. 7 And shall God not avenge His own elect who cry out day and night to Him, though He bears long with them? 8 I tell you that He will avenge them speedily. Nevertheless, when the Son of Man comes, will He really find faith on the earth?
In today’s scripture, we see the story of a Widow who won’t take no for an answer. She stayed persistent until she heard a different response from someone that didn’t care about her situation nor did he fear God. Her spirit of resilience was not broken after she was overlooked and rejected. This widow exemplified a level of courage and boldness that we all could admire. Regardless of the many dismissing moments, she did something that the Lord wants us to pay attention to. She did not yield. This woman pursued until something happened. This difficult judge granted her justice because she didn’t back down.
God shared this parable with his disciples to encourage them to always Pray Until Something Happens, to PUSH, and not lose heart. No matter what we are dealing with, God is concerned with everything that we are facing today. His word says that he will "avenge his own elect who cry out to him day and night". God will take care of our situation when we submit it before him in prayer. It’s easy to give up when we don’t see things happen in our time frame. Our hearts get overwhelmed and we become weary of praying when we don't see any tangible results. However, did we ever consider that God is working in us? He is building our faith and adding to it resilience, courage, and boldness?
When we take the posture of prayer, we must believe that God is going to answer in his divine timing. The minute we pray and petition God, we are building our spiritual stamina. Our faith becomes relentless and we are reassured that God is working even when we can’t see that he is working. Encourage yourself in the Lord and make it up in your mind that you will stay prayerful regardless of how things appear. Declare, I will PUSH, I will PURSUE, I will PRAY!
