Read Proverbs 4
"Let your eyes look straight ahead; fix your gaze directly before you.26 Give careful thought to the[c] paths for your feet and be steadfast in all your ways.27 Do not turn to the right or the left;keep your foot from evil." Proverbs 4:25-27 NIV
The book of Proverbs is filled with great wisdom and instruction from a father to his son. Yet, today we can look at it as our heavenly Father encouraging his children to seek understanding, knowledge and wisdom. One of its greatest lessons urges believers to stay focus and avoid distractions. In our quest to fulfill our God given purpose, we will be faced with distractions that will come to take us off course. However, our Father in heaven in all is divine wisdom provided instructions to help us stay on track.
The first thing he instructs us to do is keep our attention fixed. In order to accomplish our goals and fulfill our god given assignments we must keep our focus and not let what we see around us distract us or slow us down. It’s fair to say that with everything taking place in the world, how can we not notice the turmoil around us. God is not asking us to ignore what’s happening in the world he wants us to be the solution and not be consumed by it. There are so many things fighting for our attention that is created to pull us off course. God wants us to develop tunnel vision so that we won’t let what we see discourage us. Anything competing for our time that is not going to help us get where we need to go is a distraction!
Second, we must be careful to stay on the path that he has set before us, one misstep in the wrong direction can set us back or derail us completely. Psalms 1 tells us that the steps of a righteous man are ordered by God. We must be careful to only go where God leads us. Lastly, the scripture urges us to stay away from evil. We represent the King and the kingdom of God at all times and we will have moments where the enemy will want to engage us. Temptation will knock on your door on your way to fulfilling God’s purpose, don’t allow the enemy to bring false accusations, condemnation, witty tricks, strategic pitfalls or sabotage at your feet. The bible tells us in the book of James, instructs us to submit to God, resist the enemy and he will flee. Once we follow the instructions, be obedient to God’s word, the road to fulfilling our purpose will be unhindered.
