Does God have all of you?

Read: Matthew 16:24-28

Scripture highlighted: Matthew 16:24 “…If anyone desires to come After Me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow Me.”

Relationships are important. They are a huge part of our lives. We cherish them because we do not see ourselves complete without them. Whether it’s a relationship between parents and their children, a husband and a wife, siblings, friendships, or courtships, we seek to have a connection. We give ourselves to those we believe love us and we make ourselves available at their beck and call. Often times we find ourselves going above and beyond for the people that we love and will sacrifice anything for them. We find no excuse to give the person our attention, time, and affection. We openly surrender our hearts because we want that person to know how much we love them.

Now, let’s stop and think, and ask ourselves… Do I give myself to God the same way? Do I deny myself of things that I desire to seek after God wholeheartedly?

In today’s scripture, God is describing what desiring him really looks like. It’s an intimate walk that requires submission and sacrifice. When we deny ourselves, we are putting the King and his Kingdom first and foremost in our lives. God doesn’t just want to be acknowledged on special occasions or when we have a moment of success. He wants a surrendered life that is willing to follow him where ever he leads. God wants you to know that being a believer is not about identifying with a religious group. It’s about cultivating a sincere relationship with him to know his heart, plan, and purpose for our lives. Start looking at ways that you can give more of yourself to God. Spend extra time in prayer, worship, and meditating on his word. Show him that you are willing to go the extra mile if he asks. He is waiting for you!
