Build on the Rock

Matthew 7:24-27 24 Therefore everyone who hears these words of mine and puts them into practice is like a wise man who built his house on the rock. 25 The rain came down, the streams rose, and the winds blew and beat against that house; yet it did not fall, because it had its foundation on the rock. 26 But everyone who hears these words of mine and does not put them into practice is like a foolish man who built his house on sand. 27 The rain came down, the streams rose, and the winds blew and beat against that house, and it fell with a great crash.

When building a home from the ground up there are many important steps one must consider. Every contractor will share that grading and site preparation is the first step followed by laying a solid foundation when building a new home. Without preparing the site and laying the foundation correctly, anything you will be on top of it is compromised.

When a Contractor is onsite, the first thing he is focused on is surveying the land. He is looking for anything that he will need to remove before he can begin laying a framework for the foundation. They normally remove any vegetation, rocks, debris and anything that would interfere with the new construction. Once the site is graded it paves the way for the foundation to be laid. Once the foundation is ready, then the framing goes up according to the Architect’s plan.

Today’s scripture points to those truths. In order to be a grounded believer, one must live by the word. We must allow the word of God to prepare the ground of our hearts and remove anything that would get in the way of building our faith. Next, we need to ensure that our foundation is built on the solid rock. When we build our lives on the truth the foundation of our faith in God will be immovable. Lastly, we must allow the word of God to frame our lives. Jesus is the chief corner stone and the master builder. We need the word of God to order our steps and direct our path.

When we choose to obey God and listen to his words, we are able to build with confidence a spiritual house that will not be removed. We have a divine sense of security knowing that the word of God will stand up in us when we face the life’s rain and heavy winds. If we are not building our spiritual life by the word of God, we will not be able to weather life’s many storms. Decide today to let Jesus be the Architect and Contractor of your life. Trust in his word, speak the word, and most importantly, practice the word. When you do, your spiritual house will come together.
