A Heart of Thanksgiving

Updated: Oct 20, 2020

Psalm 100 KJV Make a joyful noise unto the LORD, all ye lands. 2 Serve the LORD with gladness: come before his presence with singing. 3 Know ye that the LORD he is God: it is he that hath made us, and not we ourselves; we are his people, and the sheep of his pasture. 4 Enter into his gates with thanksgiving, and into his courts with praise: be thankful unto him, and bless his name. 5 For the LORD is good; his mercy is everlasting; and his truth endures to all generations.

Psalm 100 is a very popular scripture in the Bible. It is always recited during worship service, prayer meeting or during our intimate time with the Lord. It is a constant ‘go to’ scripture when we want to adjust our heart posture.

No matter what is going on in our lives, there is always something to be grateful for. In our good and challenging seasons God remains faithful. This Psalms is a wonderful reminder of how we should serve the Lord. Here are a few instructions on how to enter God’s presence:

1. Come before his presence with singing - God wants you to be joyful when you are entering his presence. It should never feel like a drag, a job or chore. We face difficult situations and God eagerly wants to hear from you so he can give you direction.

2. Know that the Lord is God - This is important. You must believe that God is who he says he is. You must believe that you are truly entering your heavenly Father’s presence. When we come to him with the revelation of who he is, we come to learn that his word is true and he is trustworthy.

3. Be thankful and bless his name - In every THING give God thanks! Regardless of what we are faced with. Someone, somewhere is dealing with something far greater and yet, their joy remains. Not because they are better Christians, they just learned to be content in their situations and see their glass half full until their change comes.

You might not have all of our wants but God will always provide what you need. In the meantime, we should begin to thank him for turning things around and providing an opportunity to shift our situation.

Don’t look at where you are, start to visualize yourself of where you desire to be. When you get a hold of that picture, begin to thank God for opening the doors for you to receive what you visualized. Giving thanks is all about acknowledging what God has already done, is currently doing and what he will continue to do. Today, try and meditate on all the things you are grateful for. You can start with thanking him for his grace, mercy, faithful, goodness, protection, kindness and patience. Is there anything else you can begin to thank him for?
